How can we celebrate America turning 250 years old without celebrating the Black women who created the blueprint for its success in so many ways? We celebrate their legacy and courage, while inviting the entire community to come and learn about it all because HER Story is your history, too.

Black women deserve this.
Founded by Shateria Smith and inspired by the Museum for Black Girls, this has been a labor of love. This is more than a set of exhibits—it’s a sanctuary. With the help of a team of Black women, Hamilton County HERStory centers the joy, beauty, and history of Black women of and in Chattanooga, Tennessee; inviting visitors from every background to celebrate the empowerment and nostalgia of Black culture and history.
"Black women & girls deserve this. They deserve to see themselves, their accomplishments and success displayed in excellence. Black women are art; and so is their journey," says Smith.
Our hope is that you SEE yourselves as worthy, as magic, as possibility and as proof. We hope you learn something about the past blueprint makers and see the spark of the future generation of leaders, too.
